Krimml Waterfalls - Großglockner High Aloine Road - Salzburg

Salt mine Hallein:

Salt was earlier described as “White Gold” and it is a fact that the deposits created the treasure chamber of the region, millions of years ago in the Dürrnberg, near Hallein. More than about 2,500 years ago the Celts were already mining this precious gift of the mountain, which is proved by the impressive traces they have left behind.
In the oldest mine in the world open to visitors, both large and small, from the age of four take part in a treasure hunt – and follow the mysterious, ancient miners’ tunnels for many kilometers into the mystic mountain.

The exhibition "Glacier Ice" with its breathtaking diorama showing the Pasterze Glacier and its surroundings is highly impressive and helps you understand the interplay between glacier ice and electricity generation. We will bring you deep into the glacier and reveal the secrets of this wonderful natural phenomenon.

Sigmund-Thun-Gorge

Sigmund Thun Gorge:

In the late Ice Age, about 14.000 years ago, the Kaprun Valley was covered by a powerful glacier. As it flowed slowly down the valley, the glacier carved away the hard limestone, slate and mica cliffs of the Maiskogel and Bürgkogel.
As the glacier melted, it left behind the deep notch, trough which the Kaprun Stream flowed into the valley.
As much as 32 meters deep and running 320 meters long through the Sigmund-Thun Gorge, the Kaprun Stream has left its mark on the rocky riverbanks, smoothing some rock surfaces and etching whirlpools and deep holes into others.
If children and parents explore the Sigmund Thun gorge in Kaprun, they understand the words of count Sigmund von Thun, the historical town holder of Salzburg: "Blustering and incredibly the Fluthen rush towards us" and today also it appears to the families.

In the middle of the park there is a large pond with a lookout tower and plenty of opportunities to sit and rest. There are also information boards and diagrams of the flora and fauna at home in the alps.
It also includes a leisure park! Enjoy fun and games on 20,000m² surrounded by breathtaking alpine scenery.
Refreshments are served at our restaurant and at the Zwergenschenke (dwarf bar).
Parents can watch their children from the comfort of the guesthouse patio. The entrance is free.

White spray and glimmering stonewalls: through narrow rocks flows the roaring water from the Rauriser Ache, before arriving the Salzach. Rain and torrential waters have been making their way for centuries deeper and deeper into the ravine. This fascinating choreographie built by mother "nature" is preserved like a fabolous world: moossy stones and idyllic creeks, romatic atmosphere - it seems that sunshine is dancing like elfs on the water. Footpaths and tunnels - first built in the 16th century - opened the gorge for visitors, to see this fascinating natural sight with the round course to the idyllic heritage.
A sensitive Jewel of nature and only to see in guided tours, is the small unique limestone cave. An early human sign in the gorge is the scratch-mine, built by miners in 1553 in search of gold.
